“MyGhuspaithiyaStory” Event: 15 Survivors Share Their Painful Experiences, “Ghuspaithiya” gives them a platform
On August 9, the film ‘Ghuspaithiya’ has released. Directed by Susi Ganeshan, the film features Vineet Kumar Singh, Urvashi Rautela, and Akshay Oberoi in lead roles. Ahead of its release, the makers of the cybercrime-themed film launched the #MyGhuspaithiyaStory initiative, providing a platform for people to share their cybercrime-related experiences. As a result, 15 significant and painful stories came to light.
In a powerful effort to raise awareness about the growing problems of cybercrime, 15 brave survivors recently shared their harrowing experiences at an event. These individuals recounted their deep stories of cyber threats, crimes, and phone tapping, highlighting the profound impact these attacks have had on their lives.
The event was praised as a unique initiative, offering survivors an excellent platform to share their stories of struggle and victory. Director Susi Ganeshan and producer Manjari Susi Ganeshan attended the event, supporting and encouraging these courageous individuals.
Victims shared real experiences of falling into the traps of cyberbullying and crime. One woman said, “I was asked to pay money for better job opportunities at a very reputable company. They demanded a specific amount for a particular position, which was beyond my budget, but I paid anyway. A few days later, when I tried to contact them and received no response, I realized I had fallen victim to a cybercrime. I felt utterly deceived and disappointed.”
Another victim shared, “I was lured into investing a large amount with promises of significant returns. Once the money was gone, I realized I had fallen into a cybercrime trap. Losing my hard-earned money in such a deceitful manner was extremely distressing.”
Not only women and young people, but even senior citizens have fallen prey to this problem. A 70-year-old senior citizen shared his story, “A very close acquaintance asked me for money, claiming he needed financial assistance. Trusting him, I gave him the money, but he disappeared and never returned. It was a harsh lesson about how vulnerable we all are to such fraud.”
Another survivor shared a frightening experience, proving how dangerous social media can be if one isn’t vigilant. He said, “I met someone on Facebook, and we became friends. He asked for 30,000 rupees to treat his sick mother, and I sent him the money. Later, he claimed he had lost his job and needed help with work and a flight ticket to Mumbai. I booked the ticket, but he never showed up, and his phone was switched off. I realized I had been scammed.”
From senior citizens to youngsters, homemakers to working professionals, anyone can fall victim to cybercrime. Therefore, awareness of cyber security is crucial in today’s era.
This unique event aimed to promote the film while also fostering a community of awareness and support, highlighting the life-changing impacts of cybercrime and the importance of cyber security. The survivors’ testimonies are powerful reminders of the real dangers hidden in the digital world and underscore the urgent need for security measures.
The film ‘Ghuspaithiya’ released on August 9, 2024, demonstrates a commitment to raising awareness and taking active steps against cyber threats through this event. The combined impact of the film’s narrative and the survivors’ advocacy promises to leave a lasting impression on audiences and society. The film is produced by M. Ramesh Reddy, Jyotika Shenoy, and Manjari Susi Ganeshan.
