Donatekart helps 40,000+ coal miners of Dhanbad get food in the 2nd wave of Covid-19
Donatekart helps Nand Care Foundation to raise over Rs 2 crore for food and essentials items for coal miners
July 2021: Donatekart, India’s leading crowdfunding platform, along with Nand Care Foundation helped over 40,000+ coal miners get grocery in the lockdown imposed in the ongoing second wave of Covid-19 pandemic.
The closure of mining activity due to Covid-19 pandemic had left thousands of daily-wage coal miners of the Dhanbad region in the lurch. They were struggling to make two ends meet, as their life was solely dependent on mining activity. Deeply affected by the plight of these families, Donatekart and Nand Care Foundation joined hands to undertake a fundraiser and help them with getting grocery kits to sustain their lives.
As part of the fundraiser, Donatekart created a campaign on its platform www.donatekart.com, where people could visit and donate as per their choice. The webpage had options for people to select a whole grocery kit, grains, pulses, masks, sanitizer, etc. The grocery kit includes wheat flour, rice, chana dal, salt, oil, turmeric powder and chilli powder.
With the support of Donatekart and over 25,000 generous donors, Nand Care Foundation was able to raise over 2.3 crore worth of grocery kits, and distributed them to 10000+ coal miners’ families in and around Dhanbad.
Anil Kumar Reddy, CEO & Co-founder, Donatekart said, “We had helped thousands of families get grocery kits during the first wave, and want to continue helping them even now. The plight of the coal miners is heartbreaking. When Deepak Kumar of Nand Care Foundation said he needed our support to help the coal miners and their children in Dhanbad, we knew we had to do everything we can for them during this unprecedented crisis. We have plans to reach out to thousands more through subsequent drives.”
Deepak Kumar, Founder, Nand Care Foundation was very much satisfied with the response the fundraiser received through Donatekart platform. “When these coal miners were struggling for even a single grain of rice, Donatekart and so many generous donors came forward and helped them. These are such difficult times, but through a platform like Donatekart that brings NGOs and people together, we are able to lend a helping hand to so many in need. These coal miners now know that they are not alone and that they can make it through this crisis,” Deepak Kumar added.
Nand Care Foundation had been working towards the betterment of coal miners and tribal communities in and around Dhanbad. The foundation provides education to the children of coal miners and supports these families.
The Donatekart platform allows organisations to run any number of campaigns free of cost. Since there is no direct financial transaction with the NGOs, it offers assurance to the donors of transparency and correct use of their funds. Also, as part of the processes, the donors receive timely updates from the beneficiaries on how the product is being used, which gives satisfaction to the donor.
Donatekart has played a crucial role in allowing people to contribute to this and other causes throughout the pandemic. With a number of NGO partners in Mumbai, Delhi, Rajkot, Jaipur, Pune, Ghaziabad and other cities in India, Donatekart has raised over 30 crore worth of hospital infrastructure with over 1.5 lakh donors in the most effective and transparent way. This includes oxygen cylinders, oxygen concentrators, beds, oximeters, etc. They have also started distribution of equipment to hospitals and home quarantine patients, and grocery kits to those in need. This is the need of the hour, and the urgency of the situation calls for swift action.
A number of corporate and celebrities like that of Yuvraj Singh, Nora Fatehi, Samantha Akkineni and many more have also come forward to lend a helping hand, and start a fundraiser on Donatekart due to their unique model of allowing people to donate towards the products required by the NGOs. This ensures trust and transparency, an important factor for donors and NGOs alike.
