Uber launches ‘Uber Essential’ in Indore
Partners City to facilitate essential travel for residents to over 100 hospitals
Indore. Uber, in partnership with the District Administration, today announced the availability of Uber Essential in Indore for enabling residents to undertake essential travel to over 100 city hospitals, amidst the current national lockdown.
Uber Essential is a limited mobility solution which will provide transportation to riders to hospitals, as permitted and approved by local authorities. All riders on Uber Essential are mandated to carry relevant documentation to validate their purpose of travel to authorities.
Announcing the partnership, Shri Manish Singh, IAS, Collector, Indore, said, “As India continues to try to contain the spread of Covid-19, we are providing Indore’s residents access to essential locations. We are pleased to partner with Uber India to serve the travel requirements of our people in a safe and secure manner.”
Krishna Veer Singh, Head of West, Uber India, said,“We are delighted to assist Indore’s District Administration through Uber Essential. Uber Essential is a limited service intended to cater to the essential travel needs of city residents, and we discourage non-essential travel amidst the current lockdown.
We will continue to leverage our experience of launching Essential in several other Indian cities, our technology and network of driver partners to enable citizens to access essential services, while supporting authorities in containing the spread of Covid-19.”
Launched earlier this month, Uber Essential is now available in various cities pan India, including Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Gurugram, Mohali, Nashik and Indore.
Uber is committed to partnering with all levels of government in India for slowing the spread of COVID-19 and is undertaking precautionary measures, as advised by public health authorities. Uber Essential driver partners are being provided masks, gloves, sanitizers, and safety training. They’re also being issued curfew passes by local law enforcement authorities to ensure seamless movement to essential service locations.
Uber Essential riders will receive reminders through in-app messages and emails about basic steps they can take to help prevent the spread of Covid-19.
