I realized the hardest thing to do is to make someone laugh
Kiara Advani on the occasion of Zee Cinema’s premiere of Good Newzz
Charming her way in the industry with her screen presence, Kiara Advani has proven her mettle time and again. Helming the role of innocent Monika in the film Good Newzz, the story follows a heartwarming journey of two couples trying to have a baby and are unable to conceive naturally and finally receiving the good news!
Directed by Raj Mehta, Good Newzz features a stellar cast including Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor, Diljit Dosanjh and Kiara Advani. Talking about her character and her journey of the film, Kiara Advani on the occasion of Zee Cinema’s premiere of Good Newzz on 15th Augustat 8pmsays:
What was your reaction when you heard the script of ‘Good Newzz’?
When I heard the script and about my character, it cracked me up. Raj Mehta has done a fabulous job, be it the writing, the situations, characters, dialogues. It will leave everybody in splits while giving a heart-warming message. It was a yes for me in the first go itself.
Playing Monika’s character was a fun rollercoaster ride for me. And, the fun level just kept going a notch higher once we started shooting the movie, it was like a comedy brigade with Akshay sir, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Diljit Dosanjh.
Working with a stellar cast is every actor’s dream. How was it working with Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor Khan?
It was like a dream come true for me because I have been a fan of Kareen Kapoor since I was young. I have watched all her movies a zillion times and know her dialogues by heart especially Pooh’s entry in Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham, that was my favorite.
Akshay sir has launched me in the industry so working with him has always been a fun and enriching experience for me because there is always so much to learn from him. Diljit is a fantastic person and was always so supportive. I am just happy that I have learned so much by just being on sets and getting to work with these three legends.
What was the difficult part of playing a mother?
The maternal instinct comes naturally to most women. The minute we wore the prosthetic belly, our body language automatically changed. I don’t think, to play a pregnant woman was challenging, but a lot of moments and emotions in the story were touching and moving.
How was the ‘tummy suit’ experience?
It was quite heavy. So, my body language changed automatically. Even my director started treating me like he would treat an actual pregnant woman. And I had to remind him that It was a prosthetic belly.
How is your chemistry with Diljit Dosanjh? He is a very quiet person in real life.
He is the same on the set as well. He is very reserved and soft-spoken, very tameezdar. But he is a livewire in front of the camera. He is just amazing.
What was the special takeaway of the film for you?
The first day of shoot for Good Newwz began with the hospital scene where Diljit’s and my character discover we are finally having a baby! It’s funny, yet a very moving scene, also the pre-interval scene. However, right from the first scene, there was a vibe on set, and we knew this film is going to bring a big smile to people’s faces.
For me, all my three co-actors are legends! Akshay sir, Kareena ma’am and Diljit are so good at comedy and spontaneous at improvisation that I had to be on my toes. I realized the hardest thing is to make someone laugh.
