I tried to understand the psyche of Kevin for Chutzpah: Gautam Mehra
Actor Gautam Mehra is seen playing an unconventional character, Kevin, in the recently released web show, Chutzpah. The actor had to undergo immense physical and mental transformation to get into the skin of the character.
Talking about his character, Gautam says, “Kevin is a crazy, fun guy, whose life revolves around social media and all he wishes to be is a social media star. Generating new content and increasing his number of followers is the only thing that keeps running in his mind all the time. When he becomes a social media star, his personality and vision in life is affected and that’s what the story is all about.”
Gautam had to undergo a lot of physical and mental preparation to step into the shoes of Kevin. In fact, for one of KEVIN’s posts, he played an interesting character, called Algorithm Baba. “Kevin transforms remarkably to become Algorithm Baba. The release of this video and its impact in Kevin’s life is a turning point in the show. It’s a fun, but offensive video. And later my character, Kevin, is seen regretting posting the video,” says Gautam.
Talking about the mental prep, Gautam says, “I tried to understand the psyche of the character and how social media stars are like. I learnt about the amazing relationship that they share with their fans and how they keep up with the current trends and keep generating content. Kevin is someone who’s extremely fast and agile. So the mental prep was a lot of fun and exhausting at the same time.”
Gautam adds that the physical transformation required him to look lean and electric. “I had to be on my toes all the time. So I followed a physical regimen and diet plan. Before getting on the set, I would do 100 jumping jacks to get my adrenaline pumping. The process was fun and it was a huge learning experience for me,” he says.
