From Dangal to Jubilee, Aparshakti Khurana wraps Gunmaaster G9 which is his darkest role yet
‘It’s done bro!’ writes the actor as he completes the shoot of Aditya Datt’s action entertainer, in which he plays the antagonist opposite Emraan Hashmi
Aparshakti Khurana has built a career on being the actor who can change the energy of a scene. He brought warmth and comic timing to Dangal, made his spunk felt in Stree and Luka Chuppi, and showed what a robust leading man he is as the complex artist in Jubilee and Berlin. Now, the actor is stepping into considerably darker territory with his next – Gunmaaster G9 and has wrapped up shooting for the film.
Khurana announced the wrap on social media with a picture from the set, holding a clapperboard bearing the film’s title. “It’s done bro✨ final day of shoot over! Weekend for the poster shoot! We coming guyssss❤️,” he wrote, tagging co-stars Emraan Hashmi and Genelia Deshmukh, along with composer Himesh Reshammiya.
The shoot may be over for Khurana, but the post says that they move to the next step in the film’s campaign, with the team scheduled to come together for a poster shoot over the weekend.
The more interesting development, however, is the part Khurana plays in the film. In Gunmaaster G9, the actor takes on a full-fledged grey part for the first time in a Hindi action film, moving away from the affable, comic and often endearing characters that have helped establish his screen identity. His rugged look, complete with unkempt curls and a nose ring, has offered an early hint of the transformation.
Director Aditya Datt has said that Khurana was among his first choices for the role. Having watched his work in projects such as Jubilee, Datt felt the actor could bring something unexpected to the antagonist’s part rather than fall back on the familiar tropes of a commercial-film villain. The character will have shades of grey, with an emotional backstory informing his darker impulses.
Directed by Datt, Gunmaaster G9 reunites Hashmi with the filmmaker behind Aashiq Banaya Aapne. Genelia Deshmukh also stars in the film, which combines action, romance, drama and music, with Himesh Reshammiya composing the soundtrack. The film is scheduled to release in cinemas on November 27, 2026 and is among the most awaited movies of the year! And seeing our favourite affable man turn dark might be the surprise of the season!
