Heavy rain in Mumbai: roads waterlogged; Orange alert issued

Heavy rains have been pounding Maharashtra’s Mumbai and adjacent cities, leading to waterlogging in low-lying areas along with traffic snarls and disruption of suburban train as well as metro rail services.

Mumbai was battered by incessant rains on Monday inundating low-lying areas and disrupting traffic, local train services. The heavy downpour also prompted IndiGo, SpiceJet to issue travel advisories.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an ‘Orange’ alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall in Mumbai, Thane and Palghar and ‘Red’ alert for Raigad on Monday.

The Mumbai Police on Monday urged the citizens to avoid visiting coastal and low-lying areas as the metropolitan and its neighbouring districts have been hit by heavy rainfall since Sunday night.

“In view of the heavy rain alert issued by IMD across Mumbai city and suburbs, citizens are requested to avoid visiting coastal and low-lying areas. Our officials and staff are alert and ready to assist Mumbaikars. Dial 100 / 112 / 103 in case of any emergency,” the city police wrote on X.
