Junglee Pictures’ HAQ Impresses Samantha Ruth Prabhu: Stories like this are rare
Junglee Pictures’ HAQ, headlined by Yami Gautam Dhar and Emraan Hashmi, continues to impress viewers ever since it landed on Netflix after registering a successful theatrical run. After Alia Bhatt, Karan Johar and several others, it is Samantha Ruth Prabhu who has joined the list of admirers. The actress took to her social media handle to heap praise on the film, clearly stating, “This is cinema.”
Appreciating the film’s gravity as well as Yami Gautam’s performance, Samantha wrote, “I had to write this the moment the film ended because I was scared I’d lose even a fraction of what it made me feel. Stories like this are rare. So deeply human. So layered. So free of judgement or bias. And even rarer when they’re brought alive by an actor of this calibre @yamigautam.”
The actress stated that it is films like HAQ that make actors continue to do what they do. “@reshunath your writing stayed with me. @yamigautam your performance moved me in ways I can’t fully explain. I felt everything, all at once. Love. Rage. Strength. Vulnerability. Hope. This is cinema. This is the reason we do what we do. This is why we keep choosing this path, through every high and every low. Grateful. thankyou @suparnvarma BIGGEST congratulations to you on telling this story so beautifully,” she added.
HAQ is inspired by a landmark Supreme Court judgement as it tells the story of Shazia Bano (played by Yami Gautam) and her legal fight against her husband, Abbas (Emraan Hashmi). It stars Emraan Hashmi, Yami Gautam Dhar and also features debutant Vartika Singh and powerhouse performers Sheeba Chaddha, Danish Hussain, and Aseem Hattangady. Directed by Suparn S Varma, the film explores themes of the Uniform Civil Code, Triple Talaq, and gender equality before the law. Currently streaming on Netflix, HAQ is written by Reshu Nath, and is produced by Junglee Pictures, in association with Insomnia Films and Baweja Studios.
