A day in Somy Ali’s life, urges for support to save more lives
Former actress and founder of non-profit organization No More Tears, Somy Ali, is unstoppable. As of August 2024, she along with her team at NMT have saved over 50000 lives, and she continues to work relentlessly to save more victims of abuse and human trafficking.
She has shared a video on her social media handle where she said that her typical day starts at 10 am and she has already saved four women. Not only that, since she has been to India and has worked here, she also expressed her views on the India-Pakistan divide, saying that there is just a meaningless fence.
In the video, she said, “Hi everyone, this is Somy Ali. You all know me as the founder and president of No More Tears, and our mission is to rescue and empower victims of human trafficking, domestic violence, our brothers and sisters of the LGBTQ community, and also we take in pets that are victims of abuse. And typically in domestic violence households, if there are pets, they’re definitely abused. At least that’s been my experience for the past 17 years. And I can’t believe it’s been 17 years. This August, we did a tally, and we have saved 50,000 lives, and 20,000 of those lives were all from India. So they were all brought from India to Miami, Florida, or to various states in the United States to be sold into human trafficking, or they were victims of domestic violence.”
She continued, “I traveled to various states all over America to save and rescue them, send them back home to their families, and have them reunited with their parents and their family members, wherever they’re from. Primarily if they’re from India, because I speak Urdu and Hindi, which is the same thing. It’s the same language. It’s just that the only difference is that we have a fence between us. That’s all, which is ridiculous because there shouldn’t be a fence. And because we’re all one and there was actually no fence, no Pakistan before, there was when we gained independence from the British.”
Talking about her day, she said, “So anyway, I want to talk to you about today’s cases. So it’s about three o’clock, 3:15 to be precise. And I’ve dealt with four cases already, two local, a 19-year-old girl who was a victim of rape. Her rapist is at large. So we filed a restraining order. We can’t find him. And then, at 32 years old, we didn’t have to file a restraining order. He’s already behind bars, and he’s not; he does not get to get out on bail. The other two victims are from Tampa.”
“They’re human trafficking victims. And they were brought from Tampa to Miami to be sold to human traffickers. And unfortunately, uh, one is 25 and she was sold at the age of 23. So for two years, she was forced to sleep with 30 to 40 men a day. And unless she did that, she was beaten, and in addition to being beaten, she was not allowed to get any food or any hygiene products as a woman. And then we have another girl who is 18 and she was sold, since she was a minor, since she was 17. And again, same thing: she was made to meet a quota. These human trafficking gangs have a quota to meet with their victims. So this girl had to sleep with 25 to 30 men a day to meet the quota and bring the money. They never get the money. The money’s given to human traffickers and the gangs. And only then will they be allowed to eat or get any kind of hygiene product—a toothbrush, toothpaste, tampons, whatever females need. So this has been my day today starting this morning at 10 AM,” she added.
Urging the viewers to support her foundation and make some donations, she said, “I just want to tell you to please go to nomoretearsusa.org and please, please make a donation. We need your help; without your support, we cannot do it alone. So please nomoretearsusa.org. Let’s together save some lives, and we cannot do it alone. We need your help, and don’t look the other way. Get involved, make it your business, and let’s save some lives. Thank you so much.”
