Understanding the cinematic world of Kanika Dhillon
Known for crafting progressive and powerful stories, Kanika Dhillon has yet again given a blockbuster with Haseen Dillruba. The audience across borders is still in awe of her intriguing tale, impactful dialogues, and gripping drama. Starring Taapsee Pannu, Vikrant Massey, and Harshvardhan Rane, the murder mystery world of Kanika was nothing short of a thrill.
Kanika is known for weaving the most layered and complex characters for the screen. All of them have left an impact and started a conversation in real life and with audiences.
From Rumi of Manmarziyan to Bobby of Judgemental Hai Kya to Nanki of Guilty, all the leading characters of this ace writer’s universe have jumped straight from reality to cinema. Apart from giving her actors the layers and nuances to play with, the author uses sociopolitical backdrops to connect with the audience. While Manmarziyan discussed love in the age of casual dating, Guilty shed light on the #MeToo movement.
With Haseen Dillruba as well, the writer went deep into human psychology and talked about love, passion, deceit, and obsession. The panache with which Kanika created rather complex characters is what hit the audience. It was trending in 22 countries worldwide!
Talking about her love affair with messy and layered characters, Kanika said, “Imperfection is what stays with you and speaks to you! The world around us is a lot messier, and that’s what I perceive, write, and enjoy giving voice to. I am more of a person who likes to understand the psyche of these so-called twisted and complex characters because that’s who we really are in real life. And, that ‘reality’ is what I like to represent through my art.”
It’s an interesting fact to note that Kanika is also the co-producer of Haseen Dilruba. Is this ushering in the age of empowered content creators?
We are looking forward to her next in the pipeline!
