Climate Warrior Bhumi Pednekar Launches Bhamla Foundation’s World Environment Day campaign ‘Bhoomi Namaskar’
Actor, advocate and Climate Warrior Bhumi Pednekar in a powerful stride towards creating awareness around the conservation of the environment has launched Bhamla Foundation’s “Bhoomi Namaskar” campaign for World Environment Day. The Bhamla Foundation supported by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), and Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) initiated this campaign that aims to harp on the importance of the restoration of ecosystems to combat climate change and its adverse effects which comes in effect with the UN resolution of the year ‘Generation Restoration’.
As a dedicated Climate Warrior, Bhumi Pednekar has been at the forefront of numerous environmental initiatives. Through her non-profit advocacy platform Climate Warrior and The Bhumi Foundation, Bhumi has utilized her platforms to champion various causes, such as waste segregation, rainwater harvesting, recycling, upcycling, conscious fashion choices, and many more. Last year on the occasion of World Environment Day the actor planted thousands of trees on the outskirts of Mumbai, urging her fans to follow suit.
Talking about being a part of the Bhoomi Namaskar campaign, Bhumi said “I am honoured to have collaborated with the Bhamla Foundation this year for their ‘Bhoomi Namaskar’ campaign for World Environment Day. All the work that the foundation has done over the years is very inspiring – their collaboration with the UNEP, with the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and with the BMC is something that is very motivating to environment enthusiasts like me.”
Elaborating on the campaign, she added, “Our planet is facing unprecedented challenges and it is crucial that we come together to take action. This planet is our only home, there is no planet B and it is this very thought that encouraged me many years ago to embark on a journey full of empathy, care, and love for our planet and environment. We must also understand that every small action will have an impact on our climate, so as we look forward to this World Environment Day I urge everyone to make an effort to lead a sustainable lifestyle, be conscious of the consumption of resources and be empathetic to our planet and all the species with share this planet with.”
Bhumi Pednekar has recently been recognised by the World Economic Forum as a Young Global Leader for the Class of 2024 for her towering work towards climate change through her non profit Climate Warrior & The Bhumi Foundation, as well as for her big sustainable entrepreneurship ventures. She is also UNDP India’s first Indian Goodwill Ambassador for SDGs.
