Apollo Hospitals Indore Launches Institute of Liver, Hepatobiliary Sciences and Transplant

Indore , 03rd January 2026| In a major and landmark step towards providing advanced, dedicated and comprehensive liver care to patients in Central India, Apollo Hospitals Indore has formally launched the Apollo Institute of Liver, Hepatobiliary Sciences and Transplant. The institute was inaugurated by Apollo Indore’s first liver transplant patient, symbolising the beginning of a new, strong and trusted chapter in liver care for the region.

The newly established institute is fully dedicated to the treatment of complex and critical liver diseases and will offer services through a well-coordinated, experienced, multi-disciplinary team of specialists. The team collectively brings experience of over 75 successful liver transplants performed in Indore and Pune.
The institute is led by Dr. Abhishek Yadav, Senior Liver Transplant Surgeon; Dr. Sudesh Sharda, Senior Liver and Hepatobiliary Surgeon; and Dr. Amit Barfa, Senior Consultant Hepatologist. Notably, Dr. Amit Barfa is the only full-time and dedicated hepatologist in the region.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Ashmeet Chaudhary, Senior Gastroenterologist at Apollo Hospitals Indore, said,“Apollo Hospitals Indore has already been delivering excellent work in the field of gastroenterology. Strengthening this strong foundation further, we have now launched the Institute of Liver, Hepatobiliary Sciences and Transplant. Apollo’s objective is to bring the best medical experts under one roof, so that patients from Central India do not have to travel to metropolitan cities for complex liver treatments.”
Dr. Abhishek Yadav said,“Liver transplants and complex liver surgeries at Apollo Hospitals Indore will now be performed by a structured, trained and highly experienced team. This will ensure that patients receive safe, precise and high-quality treatment at a single location.”

Dr. Sudesh Sharda added,“This institute will function as a strong and dedicated centre for the treatment of serious and high-risk liver diseases in Central India. Treatments for liver cancer, complex hepatobiliary surgeries and emergency liver cases will be carried out using advanced technology, a specialised transplant ICU and a multi-disciplinary team, ensuring safer care and better outcomes.”

Dr. Amit Barfa said,“Treatment of liver diseases is not limited to surgery alone. Pre- and post-transplant medical care is equally important. Until now, patients had to travel to major metro cities for such comprehensive and long-term post-transplant care. With this institute, complete care — from diagnosis and surgery to post-surgery follow-up — will now be available at Apollo Hospitals Indore itself.”
During the programme, Apollo Indore’s first liver transplant patient shared their experience, stating that timely treatment by experienced doctors in their own city proved to be life-saving and gave them a new lease on life.

The new institute will offer adult and paediatric liver transplants, treatment for liver cancer, complex bile duct disorders, along with a state-of-the-art transplant ICU and 24×7 emergency liver services.
