Ranveer Singh, Riteish Deshmukh to Sharad Kelkar: Bollywood Actors Who Nailed Maratha Look in Historical-Epic Spectacles
Bollywood has often brought the grandeur of the Maratha era live to the big screens time and again. From pulling off royal turbans to exuding fierce Maratha energy, these actors have stepped into the Maratha world of their own – by also adding a tinge of their own charm, intensity and authenticity to the iconic characters. Take a look:
Ranveer Singh: Ranveer Singh played Peshwa Bajirao in the iconic film, Bajirao Mastani, and captured the royalty, power and legacy of the Maratha era. From shaved head, handlebar moustache, angarakha, to the pheta – Singh seeped deep into the intricacies of Bajirao.
Vicky Kaushal: Vicky Kaushal stepped into the intense and regal getup of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj in Chhaava, and his transformation captured the ruggedness of the Maratha warrior king – right from saffron and beige kurta, to rudraksha necklaces. The actor elevated his look by donning heavy, war-shield metal chest armour.
Sharad Kelkar: Sharad Kelkar’s regal on-screen appearance as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior blended authentic historical styling with a mighty physical appearance. The actor donned a traditional Maratha attire with white angarakha, a neatly draped Maratha pheta, a full-grown sharp beard and a sharp chandrakor tilak, all while bringing incredible authenticity to his look.
Ajay Devgn: Ajay Devgn brought a rugged, fierce and authentic Maratha look while portraying the titular character in Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior. The actor’s look featured a bright red pheta, with a pristine white angarakha, armour accents and ethnic shoes to draw realistic reference to the Maratha warrior.
Riteish Deshmukh: In his latest Marathi blockbuster, Raja Shivaji, Riteish Deshmukh stepped into the shoes of a Maratha warrior king, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, wherein his appearance featured an authentic pheta, royal silk jamas, traditional jewellery and a sharp beard to justify the signature look.
Whether it was the commanding screen presence or detailed costumes, these actors truly left a strong mark.
