From Parvati to Poo, Nyrraa M Banerji Has Come a Long Way: The Actress Continues to Reinvent Herself with Every Role

As Diya in ShemarooMe’s Dil Padosi, Nyrraa M Banerji steps into yet another bold and unconventional avatar

Nyrraa M Banerji has often portrayed bahu (daughter-in-law) and family-oriented roles on television, characters that have shaped a familiar image of the actress among audiences. However, she has never been comfortable being limited to one kind of role. Over the years, she has explored diverse roles across television, films and OTT, moving from familiar television avatars to more intense, glamorous, unconventional and layered characters.

Her latest role as Diya in ShemarooMe’s Dil Padosi is another departure from the images audiences may associate her with. Diya is a sharp, ambitious and fiercely independent corporate professional who lives life on her own terms. Confident, outspoken and unapologetically herself, she refuses to follow conventional ideas of how a woman “should” behave. Beneath her strong exterior, however, lies a character with emotional contradictions and vulnerabilities that gradually unfold through the series.

What makes Nyrraa’s journey particularly interesting is her consistent effort to avoid being typecast. Even when an image succeeds, she prefers roles that offer something new to perform. Her recent choices have reflected this intent, with characters across genres allowing her to move between positive, negative, dramatic, glamorous and emotionally complex spaces. She has also spoken about being selective with projects, emphasising that the role and the opportunity to perform matter more to her than simply taking up work for financial reasons.

With Diya, Nyrraa once again chooses a character that challenges expectations. Rather than playing a predictable protagonist or a conventional “other woman”, Diya occupies a much more complicated space. She is bold and magnetic, but also emotionally layered; confident and controlled, yet vulnerable in ways that slowly emerge. This complexity allows Nyrraa to explore a different facet of her screen presence.

Talking about what drew her to the character, Nyrraa M Banerji says, “Honestly, I was drawn to Diya because she is so unapologetically herself, and so am I. She has ambition, confidence and a very strong sense of who she is, and I really enjoyed stepping into that space. I have always believed that the most interesting characters are the ones you can’t easily put into a box, and Diya is one of them. I loved that she doesn’t wait for life to happen to her; she makes things happen. I think Diya will surprise people, and I’m looking forward to seeing whether they love her, dislike her or do a little bit of both! Working on Dil Padosi with ShemarooMe was exciting because the story gives actors and their characters room to be complicated and unpredictable.”

As Dil Padosi brings audiences a new side of Nyrraa, Diya becomes another chapter in an evolving career, one where reinvention is not an exception, but a conscious choice. For an actress who has consistently been ready to take on challenging roles, the character offers yet another opportunity to move beyond the familiar and surprise audiences.

Dil Padosi, streaming from 15th October 2026 exclusively on ShemarooMe as part of Shemaroo Premiere.
