This independence day, india is celebrating the heroes of operation safed sagar
From actors and filmmakers to entrepreneurs and changemakers, voices from across the country are coming together to celebrate Netflix’s Operation Safed Sagar, calling it a story every Indian should experience.
Mumbai, 14th August 2026: This Independence Day, Netflix’s Operation Safed Sagar has become more than just a critically acclaimed series – it has become a national conversation, and the perfect binge to mark the occasion.
Since its release last week, Netflix’s Operation Safed Sagar has won over critics and audiences alike, earning an IMDb rating of 8.8 and cementing its place as one of the year’s most celebrated Indian series. Now, as the country marks Independence Day, voices from across the entertainment industry and beyond have come together to celebrate the series, applauding its emotional storytelling, authenticity and its tribute to the courage of the young Indian Air Force officers who flew one of history’s highest aerial mission.
From Ajay Devgn, Ramesh Taurani, Nikkhil Advani to Anand Mahindra and even Amul Butter, many have taken to social media to encourage audiences to witness the untold story of the Golden Arrows Squadron, one extraordinary chapter of the Indian Air Force’s role during the Kargil War.
Talking about how much he loved the series, Ajay Devgn said, “A deeply moving tribute to those who always chose to put nation before themselves. Salute to our IAF heroes. Congratulations to the entire team. Thoroughly enjoyed the show. Jai Hind.”
Sonu Sood , talking about how the series inspired him as a parent, said, “Like my own parents, I also try to give my children the same values that they gave me. Kids these days ask the most interesting questions. ‘Dad, how will all of this change the future?’ I don’t always have an answer to that. Recently, I watched Operation Safed Sagar, and for the first time, I looked at a story like this through the eyes of a father. Those young Air Force officers… they were only about 19 or 20 years old, probably around the age of Ishant or Ayaan. They took on a responsibility that very few of us ever would. I can’t even begin to imagine what their parents must have gone through. Even thinking about it is frightening. All I want is for every son and daughter of this country, just like my own children, to grow up watching stories like these. So that whenever they face a big challenge in life, they remember that behind every great achievement lies only courage… and courage has no age. Operation Safed Sagar is not just the story of Kargil, it is an inspiration for every generation. Watch Operation Safed Sagar, only on Netflix. Jai Hind!”
Sonakshi Sinha , talking about the fire in the younger generation, like the young squadron of the Indian Air Force, said, “Seeing the GenZ of today, I get a lot of hope. You guys are just so fearless. You stand up. You show up. You really care for the future of India. For the past few days, I’ve been wondering… where does so much courage come from? I remember back in 1999, I was just a little girl. I was in school, and I used to watch the news about Kargil on television. Today, I realize how young our heroes really were. Like the Indian Air Force’s fighter pilots. During the Kargil War, when the enemy had captured our highest peaks, fighting only on the ground had become extremely difficult. That’s when the Indian Air Force sent its youngest squadron to carry out the world’s highest aerial operation. Imagine being so young that you’ve never fought a war before, and yet your country’s future is at stake. There are moments when something just stirs deep inside you. I promise you, after watching their story, many more will feel that too. Watch Operation Safed Sagar, the untold story of the Kargil War, only on Netflix.”
Genelia D’Souza took to social media to also praise the series, “When as a parent, you want your kids to watch something, it just means it was all heart and probably the best I have seen in a while. Operation Safed Sagar holds exactly this emotion. The entire cast and crew, you guys were exceptional!”
Anand Mahindra took to X to opine about the series saying, “I binge-watched Operation Safed Sagar over the weekend. And I want to say thank you to everyone who had a hand in making this series & to Netflix for commissioning it. For many reasons… Because, despite some reviewers cribbing about inconsistent CGI & performances that could have been better, I found the actors competent and credible. More importantly, I was moved and inspired by the story & the emotions underlying it. Because I wish that, when I was growing up, we had had more films like this, recording the feats of our armed forces in the many conflicts we have experienced, in a gritty and convincingly realistic manner. Instead, we grew up on a diet of Hollywood war movies which, despite often taking enormous liberties with historical accuracy, helped build American pride & self-belief while we watched as envious bystanders. Because, even though I knew a great amount about the courage of soldiers like Vikram Batra and the role of the Bofors gun in Kargil, I confess I knew far too little about the critical role played by the Indian Air Force. And I certainly didn’t know that, apart from extraordinary valour, Operation Safed Sagar showcased the ingenuity & rapid improvisation that we now celebrate as a hallmark of Indian innovation. The IAF acquired handheld GPS receivers, put them into MiGs & used them to calculate release points for ordinary “dumb” bombs. They conducted hurried trials, initially got disappointing results, refined the technique within a handful of sorties & took it into combat almost immediately. The Mirage story, dealt with more briefly in the series, was equally remarkable. The IAF had Mirage 2000s, Israeli Litening laser-designation pods and Paveway II guidance kits, but had not yet turned that combination into an established combat capability. When a required component could not be obtained from abroad due to the 1998 sanctions, IAF technicians displayed what I call ‘denial-driven innovation’ & engineered the solution themselves! So at a time when we are debating whether human intelligence will increasingly become a slave to machine intelligence, it’s incredibly valuable to be reminded that even in battle, where decisions are made in seconds & lives depend upon them, it’s ultimately the humans behind the machines who make the difference. I hope as many people as possible watch this series. Because when the men and women of our armed forces know that we know their stories & remember their sacrifices, they also know that their courage will not be forgotten. The heroes of Operation Safed Sagar are my #MondayMotivation. With a special salute to Squadron Leader Ajay Ahuja.”
Through stories like these, Operation Safed Sagar continues to spark conversations beyond the screen, reminding audiences of the extraordinary courage, resilience and determination of India’s youngest air warriors. It is quickly becoming the perfect independence day watch! As appreciation pours in from celebrities, critics and viewers alike, the series stands as a powerful tribute to one extraordinary chapter of the Indian Air Force’s role during the Kargil War, ensuring that the legacy of the Golden Arrows Squadron reaches a new generation of audiences across India and the world.
