CreditAccess Grameen Drives Livelihood Creation in Madhya Pradesh with Microfinance

Indore, 16 August 2026: Institutions like CreditAccess Grameen Limited, an RBI-registered NBFC-MFI operating under the name Grameen Koota, are playing a crucial role in expanding access to credit for low-income households to support income generation and financial stability.

The story of 39-year-old Pinki Kour from Madhya Pradesh highlights the difference that access to credit can make. Following individuals build stable income opportunities. Following the loss of her husband, she took training in bag stitching. She decided to use her tailoring skills to build a steady income and support her son’s future. With support from CreditAccess Grameen, Pinki took a loan of ₹70,000 to buy a sewing machine and grow her business of making bags. She also took a ₹25,000 education loan to support her son’s schooling.

Today, Pinki produces bags in bulk and sells them on e-commerce platforms like Amazon and Flipkart, with ambitions plans to expand her homemade bag business across India. The timely financial support enabled her to purchase essential equipment and basic supplies, helping her stabilize and grow her operations. Her business has also created local employment, by engaging 2–3 workers daily.

Pinki Kour expressed her gratitude, saying, “The day I received financial support from Grameen Koota, it felt like a door had opened for me. I finally had a way to turn my skills into something meaningful. Today, I feel proud to support my family and help other women in my village start their own journeys.”

Today, Pinki not only continues to run her small business but also shares her skills with other women in the community. She is preparing to open a tailoring shop in the local market, with a long-term vision of establishing a training and employment hub for women in the region. Stories like Pinki Kour’s showcase how access to responsible finance can bring about transformation at an individual as well as community level.

Madhya Pradesh has a strong microfinance presence, with a gross loan portfolio of ₹19,281 crore as of March 2026. Serving over 41 lakh unique borrowers, the sector continues to play a critical role in ensuring sustained credit access for underserved communities across the state. The microfinance sector plays a pivotal role in enabling grassroots entrepreneurship and driving inclusive economic progress.
