Is Ektaa Kapoor building a ‘Vvaan Verse’? The film may be the first chapter of a much larger folklore universe

What if The Vvaan isn’t just a film? What if it is the first doorway into an entire world?

That possibility is beginning to look increasingly interesting as the makers build the mythology around The Vvaan even before its theatrical release. The film, starring Sidharth Malhotra and Tamannaah Bhatia, isn’t arriving as a standalone fantasy story with a beginning, middle and end that audiences simply watch and leave behind. There is already a larger world taking shape around it and that has naturally sparked the question: is Ektaa Kapoor building a ‘Vvaan Verse’?

The biggest clue is that the mythology has already moved beyond the film. The makers introduced The Legend of Vvaan, a comic book that expands the folklore surrounding this world and gives audiences another entry point into its mythology. That’s an interesting move for a film that hasn’t even released yet. Instead of waiting for audiences to discover the world through the movie, the makers have begun laying out pieces of its lore elsewhere.

And then there is what Ektaa Kapoor herself has said about the project. At the comic book launch, she described The Vvaan as the “genesis of a whole new world” and teased that the film contains Easter eggs that could lead audiences down their own conspiracy-theory rabbit holes. She even spoke about the possibility of fans creating their own theories and fan fiction around the world.

That certainly sounds bigger than simply setting up one film. The teaser itself adds fuel to the speculation. Vvaan is not presented as just a mysterious forest. It has its own rules, its own history and an apparently ancient supernatural force. The warning that those who enter after dark never return immediately suggests that this mythology existed long before Sidharth’s character arrived at its doorstep. In other words, there is clearly a story behind the story.

Could that mean other characters and legends exist within this world? Is Vvaan one chapter in a larger book of Indian folk inspired stories and characters or supernatural forces introduced in one story eventually cross paths with others?

None of that has been confirmed and that’s why it makes for such an intriguing theory.

What makes the possibility particularly exciting is that The Vvaan isn’t built around an existing superhero property or a pre-established fantasy franchise. The makers are creating their own mythology, drawing from Indian folklore and giving it a contemporary, large-scale theatrical treatment. If the first film works, the world already has the ingredients to expand: legends, supernatural forces, mysterious locations, characters and stories that can potentially exist beyond the central narrative.

For now, calling it a ‘Vvaan Verse’ is speculative. But the breadcrumbs are difficult to miss: a new mythology, a comic book, Easter eggs, an expanding folklore world and Ektaa Kapoor calling the film the genesis of an entirely new world.

So perhaps the real question isn’t whether The Vvaan has a universe. It’s how much of that universe we’re actually going to see.

Backed by some of the country’s most distinctive storytellers, The Vvaan brings together TVF’s Arunabh Kumar, director Deepak Mishra and Ektaa Kapoor for a commercial film that attempts to take Indian folklore into a new cinematic space. While its world is rooted in folklore and fantasy, the film brings together adventure, mystery and humour to shape itself as a complete family entertainer. The ambition extends beyond the film, with The Legend of Vvaan comic book already introducing audiences to the larger folklore surrounding its universe.

Presented by Balaji Motion Pictures, a division of Balaji Telefilms Ltd, in association with TVF and 11.11 Production, The Vvaan stars Sidharth Malhotra and Tamannaah Bhatia. Written by Arunabh Kumar and directed by Deepak Mishra, with Manu Anand as DOP and Visual Director, the film is produced by Shobha Kapoor, Ektaa R Kapoor, Arunabh Kumar and Niraj Kothari.

The Vvaan arrives in cinemas on September 25, 2026, promising a big-screen fantasy folklore experience where the visuals, music, mystery and scale come together to create a world audiences will want to step into.
