You Made Me Cry, Girl”: When Feroz Khan was left in tears by Urmila Matondkar’s Performance, Urmila shares touching memory on India’s Best dancer season 5
23rd June 2026, Mumbai : Urmila Matondkar brought a wave of profound vulnerability and heartfelt nostalgia to the stage of India’s Best Dancer Season 5 on Sony Entertainment Television during its upcoming episode. Joining the show as a special guest alongside judges Karisma Kapoor, Jaaved Jaaferi, Geeta Kapur and Terence Lewis the Bollywood icon treated the audience to an intimate, never-before-heard story regarding her professional history with the late, legendary filmmaker and actor, Feroz Khan.
Triggered by a powerful and evocative performance by the contestants that mirrored the tragic climax of her cult 2001 psychological romantic thriller Pyaar Tune Kya Kiya, Urmila opened up about the lasting impact of that role. Known for her humility and shyness when receiving compliments in person, Urmila left the audience, judges, and contestants spellbound as she recounted the precise moment Feroz Khan walked up to her after watching the film.
Urmila speaks about an unforgettable compliment that she received from Feroz khan by stating “Of all the people in the world, jab Feroz Khan sahab yeh film dekhne aaye the, tabh ki baat yaad hain, jab unhone film khatam ki aur yeh compliment-wompliment saamne-saamne jaana mujhe ekdam aata nahi hai, jamta nahi hain aaj bhi. Toh he came up to me and he said, You made me cry girl in the last scene, and I don’t like tears. And I was like, bohot kam aise hota hain jab mujhe kya bolu samajh mein nahi aata and I’m like (gasping sound) oh oh matlab maine kya bola hoga mujhe yaad nahi hain, but it was so touching and to see such a macho he-man of a person coming up to you and saying something like that, because the end of the movie is something similar to what they have tried to portray in this particular performance.”
The actress further expressed her profound gratitude toward the audience, noting that the ultimate validation for an actor comes from the public rather than critics. She concluded by marveling at how, even after 25–26 years, her complex performance as the obsessive Ria in Pyaar Tune Kya Kiya continues to trend on the internet and resonate with generations of film lovers.
