Dr. Acharya Vinod Kumar Ojha on Ganesh Chaturthi 2026: When Vighnaharta Comes Home, Let Us Welcome Not Just Bappa But a New Way of Thinking

By Dr. Acharya Vinod Kumar Ojha

Ganesh Chaturthi is much more than a festival of bringing Lord Ganesha into our homes. It is a sacred opportunity to welcome wisdom, patience, positivity and a fresh beginning into our lives.

In Sanatan Dharma, every auspicious beginning starts with the remembrance of Lord Ganesha. He is known as Vighnaharta, the remover of obstacles, but He is also revered as the embodiment of wisdom, intelligence, good judgment and auspicious beginnings.

Life teaches us that opportunities alone are not enough. We need wisdom to recognise the right opportunity, clarity to make the right decision, and patience and faith to continue when the journey becomes difficult. These are among the beautiful qualities that Lord Ganesha inspires us to cultivate.

Ganesh Chaturthi 2026

This year, Ganesh Chaturthi will be celebrated on Monday, September 14, 2026.

The Chaturthi Tithi begins on September 14 at 7:06 AM and ends on September 15 at 7:44 AM.

For devotees in Mumbai, the Ganpati Sthapana and Madhyahna Puja Muhurat is from 11:20 AM to 1:48 PM.

This auspicious period can be used to welcome and worship Ganpati Bappa with faith, love and a peaceful heart.

Before Bringing Bappa Home, Prepare Your Heart Too

Before Ganpati arrives, we clean our homes, decorate every corner, prepare flowers, sweets and everything that we lovingly offer to Bappa.

But this Ganesh Chaturthi, let us clean something else too — our hearts.

If there is anger towards someone, try to let it go.

If there has been a misunderstanding, take the first step and speak with love.

If someone has been hurt because of us, do not hesitate to say sorry.

And if anger, jealousy, ego or negativity has found a place within us, let us make a sincere effort to leave some of it behind.

Perhaps there can be no more beautiful preparation for welcoming Vighnaharta into our homes.

Offer Durva, red flowers and Modak to Lord Ganesha. Light a diya and spend a few peaceful moments in His presence.

Om Gan Ganapataye Namah.

Chant the sacred mantra with faith and devotion.

But this year, instead of asking Bappa only for money, success or the removal of problems, let us ask Him for something deeper.

Ask Him for wisdom.

Ask Him for patience.

Ask Him for the ability to make the right decisions.

And ask Him for a heart that can genuinely feel happiness in the happiness of others.

Whatever Your Zodiac Sign, Faith Comes First

Whether you are Aries or Pisces, your zodiac sign does not decide how close you can be to God.

Your Bhav and Shraddha do.

A grand puja or expensive offering is not necessary. One Durva, one flower, one diya and one sincere prayer coming from the heart can also become a beautiful offering to Bappa.

Lord Ganesha’s divine form itself teaches us valuable lessons.

His large head reminds us to think big.

His large ears remind us to listen before we speak.

His focused eyes teach us to remain committed to our purpose.

And His divine presence reminds us that wisdom should always come with humility, while success should always carry gratitude.

This Ganesh Chaturthi, Ask Bappa for Something Different

This Ganesh Chaturthi, let our prayers go beyond material wishes.

Hey Ganpati,

Do not only remove the obstacles from my path.
Give me the strength to face them too.

Do not only give me success.
Give me the wisdom to handle that success.

Do not only bless me with wealth.
Give me a heart that knows how to use some of it for others.

Do not only bring prosperity into my home.
Keep love, values, peace and respect alive in my family.

And whenever I lose my way,
please guide me back towards the right path. 🙏

Let Bappa Change Something Within Us

When Bappa enters our homes this Ganesh Chaturthi, may He also enter our thoughts.

May He remove not only the obstacles around us but also the obstacles within us — our anger, ego, jealousy, fear and negativity.

May someone hungry receive food because of us.

May someone who has lost hope find a little hope because of us.

And may our devotion to God also be visible in the way we treat other human beings.

Because one of the most beautiful forms of devotion is simply becoming a better human being.

Let this Ganesh Chaturthi be a celebration not only of faith, but also of transformation.

May Lord Ganesha bless every home with wisdom, peace, prosperity, good health, harmony and the strength to walk on the right path.
